Blandy's Malmsey Colheita Madeira was aged in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional "Canteiro" system, whereby the casks of wine are gradually transferred from the warm top floors of the lodge through the building until it reaches the cool ground floor. Benoit Gautier, the present winemaker, tookcharge in 1981. He began the policy of domaine bottling, whereas previously the wines were sold to negociants. Thedomaine comprises 29 acres in the communes of Rochecorbonand Parcay- Meslay. The soil is the classic Tuffeau or limestonechalkfor which the central Loire is famous.
