Natural River Aquarium Gravel For Freshwater Aquariums and Ponds This listing is for 40 pounds of beautiful natural river gravel to create the most realistic and beautiful aquascaping in your aquarium or garden pond. The color of this gravel is my personal favorite. It's a light mixture from a creamy white to light tan and it compliments just about every tank decoration you can add. The overall grain size of this gravel is medium but not uniform in size and ranges from 1/8" diameter to 1/2" diameter with the average size about 1/4" diameter (pea-sized). To quickly estimate the amount of gravel required for an aquarium, simply multiple the aquarium's length (in inches) by it's width (in inches), then divide by ten. The resulting number is the number of pounds of gravel that will cover the aquarium bottom to an average depth of two inches. 2-4 inches of gravel will create a natural biological filter in your tank bottom, the deeper the better.
