The binocular eyepieces are fixed vertically at 30 degrees, and rotate 360 degrees. The microscope has a 20/80 light split, which means that when a third head is used, 20% of the light goes through the third head, and 80% goes to the user’s eyes through the binocular eyepieces. The unit has 55-75mm interpupillary adjustment for individual eye spacing, and - 6 to + 6 dioptric adjustment capabilities to compensate for the difference in viewing ability between each eye. This microscope features Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN)-standard achromatic objective lenses, which correct for red and yellow chromatic aberrations. Adjustable resolution provides magnification options of 4X, 10X, 40X, and 100X (0.10, 0.25, 0.60, 1.25 numerical aperture [NA]). Integrated Koehler illumination controls brightness, and brightfield illumination controls light from below, allowing a specimen to absorb light for clear illumination. The unit adjusts light through a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser with an iris diaphragm. The condenser is mounted on a rack and pinion focusing mechanism, and the unit has a filter holder on the collector. The unit has 20-watt variable quartz halogen lighting. A 10X widefield eyepiece magnifier locks on to the unit for ease of operation. The eyepieces have a high eyepoint (20 mm field diameter), and rubber eyecups to block out external light interference. The Van Guard 1122SP stereo microscope has binocular viewing heads, and a magnification ability of up to 10X or 20X, with dual objective magnification configurations of 1X and 2X, for a range of resolution. This microscope enhances object or image resolution with a stereo optical system that produces three-dimensional images. It is commonly used for inspection and dissection applications. This microscope features binocular viewing heads, which ease eye strain and provide a more comprehensive view. The heads have a fixed 45-degree vertical inclination, and rotate 360. The microscope has 51-71 mm interpupillary adjustment, and - 5 to + 5 dioptric adjustment capabilities. It has a 20.0 mm field of view (FOV) for the 1X, 10.00 mm FOV for the 2X, and a 102 mm working distance (WD). It has a 10X wide field eyepiece magnification, and a 20 mm eyepiece field diameter. The stereo optics have parfocal, revolving turret objectives, which stay in focus when objectives are rotated. The optics are also parcentered, so that the specimen remains in the center of view when the objectives are rotated. The stage plate is reversible to black and white, and the microscope has two, locked on, stainless steel, spring-loaded stage clips for durability. The microscope has dual, knurled focus adjustment knobs, for controlled focusing. It has rack and pinion assembly, a slip clutch mechanism, and a tension control mechanism to protect the gears. The microscope has a solid, stainless steel pole stand with 65 mm of total vertical travel ability, and vertical clearance of 65 to 175 mm. It has a stain-resistant and durable cast metal body with an enamel finish, and anti-skid rubber feet. The 1122SP microscope comes with two eyecups, a dust cover, instructions, and five-year warranty. The 1122SP microscope overall dimensions are 390 x 150 x 230 mm (H x W x D), with base dimensions of 150 x 230 mm (W x D). It weighs 2.9 kg. Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying viewing abilities. A trinocular eyepiece is used to output digital images or video to an internal or external device such as a camera or monitor. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also use LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries. Vee Gee Scientific manufactures laboratory equipment and supplies, and makes the VanGuard brand of products. The company, founded in 1981 and headquartered in Kirkland, WA, offers scientific equipment for educational, research, clinical, and industrial applications.
